Artist statement for crayon melt

Unfortunately I do not have a finish photo of the piece.
Will post later if allowed once I retrieve the object.

With the second time based drawing, The inspiration stems from my fascination with crayons. As a kid they were like dolls to me, each with their own personality, class, and voice. So melting them was super fun. I wanted it to be thick with color. And remembering how nicely crayons melt I utilized them.

Using a water heater that I fashioned out of my old water heater, aluminum for oil, and a hairdryer, I was able to accomplish this feat.

With this project what I wanted to say, is how overtime things become beautiful, if allowed the duration and work effort. So far this was the most enjoyed I felt by any of the projects

Reason there isn't very many photos.+Artist statement for third time-based project

Unfortunately I do not have any other photos for the dyed flowers, With an update from my camera, I lost the majority of my pictures.

This includes a professional picture of both The crayon melt and the mums.

However I will put in the artist statement for both.

For the dyeing of the mums-
This was an idea that I had for the science portion of class assignments. But unfortunately I did not have the time. For this project over I did. I utilized regular store-bought food dye, and had purchased a big bowl of the flowers. They needed to be white so that the dog could be easily seen.

I then cut the stems off and place them in the colored water. With some i split the stem down the middle, so that the flower would suck up two different kinds of water color.

With this I wanted to get across how things change over time, particularly with the environment they were in, represented by the colored water. After a lot of spells and a cut finger, I was able to Create about 15 bouquets...

Drawing in Space

I'm This probably the project out of the four that I've worked the hardest on. I was going through a tough time. So the inspiration that came about for this project was, what would look like if I recorded every single one of my emotions. Every 3 hours a day from the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep. I was expecting it to look a lot darker, but good things that happen that week. I learned that I got an internship to a program I really wanted to attend, my 21st birthday was right around the corner. And I went to Universal that weekend. The majority of sticks that I paintedwe're of the color gold and gray. Gold meaning content, grain meaning tired. Then again that's the normal life of a college student anyways. I used sticks because they're literally pieces of time that breakaway into the void. So I felt like I had reclaim them, and then printed my own bits of time.

Time based 3

These mums are the flowers that I use for my project. I had more pictures but do to some unforeseen circumstances, I lost all other photos of them and their process.

Finished Henna Project

Artist statement:
With this project I played with the title a bit. Drawing on objects. So utilizing my feminist values and my deep love of exotic body art, I came up with this project. I designed all the designs myself, because they represented who I was. There are few beliefs out there in the world that see the women's body in the same regard as an object. There are examples of our culture where there is objectification of it, and how everyone must have the "perfect body". With this, not only did I use my body, I felt better about the way that I looked. In some moments I did feel self-conscious about this decision, but that was only once, throughout the entire time the henna stayed on my body. Overall, I wanted to relay the information that my body is my own, and I do as I wish with it.

Crayon melt - Time based

I have always had a fascination with crayon. As a child, I would play with them,  giving each a name, personality, and class in the crayon box. I didn't really now if one could melt them down or not. That is Until this video:

Starting on Henna - Drawing on the object

Inspiration for my Henna Drawing on the Object

A quote from the wiki page on Mehndi:
"Haldi (staining oneself with turmeric paste) as well as mehndi are Vedic customs, intended to be a symbolic representation of the outer and the inner sun. Vedic customs are centered on the idea of "awakening the inner light." Traditional Indian designs are of representations of the sun on the palm, which, in this context, is intended to represent the hands and feet."

In the place of the sun I used Sunflowers

Body is the Mark

These are my cousins/ sister, Whom volunteered to help with this project. The inspiration came from looking at photos of myself as a younger kid, and remembering how rebellious I wanted to be while being told to act like an adult.
